Notes and reflections from the orchard
Six trees, planted the first spring, and every year I took the loppers to them like clockwork. This year I left them alone — and learned the difference between tending a thing and controlling it.
The bright side of winter is this being forced inside to think about and prepare for spring planting.
I began this project believing the biological process of planting seeds or trees, adding the elements to make them grow (air, sun, water), and seeing them grow would be comparatively clear-cut. How short-sighted I was.
